Getting Our Garden Ready for the 4th of July Block Party! Though it's summer time, some of our Barrington Informal teachers and alumni parent, Amy Winslow spent the morning in our garden . With the July 4th Block party being hosted in the Barrington field, we want our garden to be fashionable! The Benton kids helped too and even spotted some wildlife !
Where would we be without our parent volunteers? Thanks for joining us, Amy WInslow!
Spreading the last 2 bags of donated mulch.
Kelli Wilcox and the Benton kids help a bug come back to life!
The 3rd and 4th grade raised bed is growing! Many thanks to the last day of school planting by parent, Tina Gray and the crew from Mrs. Benton's,Mrs Emery's , Ms. Rodriguez's and Mrs. O's classrooms.
See what a couple of hours and a group of friends can do?
One of our goals for our garden is for all the plantings to be native. Click on this link to see what native plants we have growing!
Taking Care of the Garden in the Summer Thank you for helping us tend the garden this summer! The water key and a sprinkler head are kept in Abby Blake’s mailbox in the main building. There will also be a bag of birdseed and lawn bag for weeding next to the mailbox. Please feel free to hang on to these items until it is your time to pass them along. When your week is finished, simply put the key and sprinkler head back in Abby’s box. Garden Instructions: 1. You may want to bring along a large bucket to fill the gator bag on the buckeye tree in the habitat. There is an additional water outlet near the bike racks that you can access, but we don’t have a hose on that side. You may choose to lug the hose, though! 2. Watering the garden takes about 20-30 minutes. We’ve been known to bring a sprinkler from our homes and let that go for a while! 3. As a certified natural habitat, we are expected to provide the four basic needs of animals at all times. Please be sure that both bird baths (one in the flower garden and one in the side lawn) are filled and the bird feeders too. 4. Please pull the weeds! The Upper Arlington Grounds Crew will pick up any lawn bags filled and placed on the sidewalk at the end of the vegetable garden. 5. Harvest our veggies! We have already picked green beans, zucchini and cucumbers and our tomatoes are growing. Enjoy what you pick- it’s our way of saying “thanks”! 6. Please add a journal entry to your child’s classroom page on our wiki about your garden experience. Did you see any wildlife? What changes are happening in the garden?

Mr. Dickinson has documented our garden with the various plants and a blueprint.
